From the Creators of Crossy Road
Shooty Skies is an aeronautical-based arcade shooter game that could go on forever with its seemingly chaotic gameplay.
It is a follow up and response to the clamor from user who enjoyed their previous game Crossy Road and it has a similar quirky and cute style with blocky characters and animal characters.
Yet, it is not just a repeat of the original game. It claims to be much better and much more action-packed than its predecessor.
This game will definitely appeal to Crossy Road fans and enthusiasts but new players could also find fun in a game as fun and exciting as this one.
The Game’s Mechanics
The game initially starts with you, the player, behind the the wheel and in control of your very own aircraft! Loaded with several “pixel-shooting” guns which are somewhat reminiscent to old, classic games like Mario, you can let them fly through the air in the hopes of hitting your target – an endless barrage of enemies with their own projectiles such as:
- Joystick controllers
- Hamburgers
- Cans of soda
- Dollar bills
- Axes
This game is definitely a crazy one as you can obviously tell!
But don’t let it’s cuteness and fun style fool you. This game can become wickedly difficult very fast! You will need to out maneuver your enemies as well as returning their attacks with your own which if you play the game, you will find better said than done.
And if we haven’t said it enough, this game is very action-packed, very fast-paced that might not be the best for the faint of heart. A game of Shooty Skies is a game filled with close calls, frequent deaths, and barrage of color as you continue to play!
If you can manage to stay alive and well for some time and have been able to dispose many of the enemies in your way, you will finally encounter the boss. You better hold onto your hats and strap in tight as you are going to get into battle with some of the cleverest bosses in a game ever! You will not only have to out maneuver them but you will also have to stronger and fast than them if you intend to win! Good luck.
The Game’s Main Features
The game features include:
- Colorful pilots – There are at least thirty-three characters to choose from which you can unlock throughout the game through what are called in the game as “draws”. You can play as: Shooty Cat, Boombot, Snaps the Camera, 3.1 the Desktop Computer, Crossy Chicken, Gumpy the Gorilla and many more! Whatever character you choose, they also come with a different and unique background that is all their own. For example, if you play as Crossy Chicken, you will notice that your background is that of the Crossy Road highways.
- Seemingly adorable enemies – Watch out for their “cute” projectiles – joystick controllers, hamburgers, cans of soda, dollar bills and axes!
- Witty bosses – Beware the Bald eagle, the Giant beaver, and the Mouth!
- Tons of loot crates – Use the loot to upgrade your weapons!
The System Requirements
In order to play this game, you will need a big chunk of memory – 41 MB to be exact. It will also require you to an Android system of at least 4.0.3 or higher in order for this game to work on your phone or tablet.
There are some in-app products and the game may ask permission in order for you to access these in the future.
The Good Stuff
There are many things to like about Shooty Skies. From the graphics to the gameplay to the characters – they are all top notch! You will have loads of fun playing this game and because of its endless gameplay, you will be playing for a long while yet!
This is definitely a game that you would want to play on long road trips or if you are waiting in a long line or if you just have a lot of time to kill.
And typically, fans of Crossy Road will definitely enjoy this spin-off to their beloved game as not only do you play new characters but you also can play well-known characters such as Crossy Chicken!
The Bad Stuff
Like Crossy Road, this game is free to play. But like most free to play mobile games and in order for developers to get some kind of kickback, ads are rife in this game which can be quite annoying for some users.
Another glaring disappointment is that there is no music when playing this game! Though maybe for some this is not much of a big deal but for a game that is fast-paced, action-packed as Shooty Skies, there must be a soundtrack that could easily compliment this and would have been an added benefit to playing the game.
But while these are just mere disappointments and critique that could very well change in future versions of Shooty Skies, there are two more flaws that aren’t as easily remedied as the other two. And these are:
- Battery life
- Memory space
The Solution
So what can we do about it then? We all have the same experiences with game apps and what they can do to our phones and tablets. There is just no way around it, no permanent solution.
Like with most mobile games, battery life will always be an issue because phones and tablets have a limited energy source and these apps tend to suck up the battery much faster when you are playing them.
Memory space is also an issue because a lot of these games can need a sizable amount of space on your phone’s memory or SD card in order to work and while you could buy a bigger SD card, this isn’t the best option all the time.
Thankfully, there is an alternative to this. And this is called Andy! Andy is an emulator that allows you to play these mobile games such as Shooty Skies on your PC rather than on our mobile devices!
Why is this so important? As we already know, the main issues with mobile game apps is that they drain battery life and that they waste tons of space but if you can play these games on a PC then you won’t need to worry about these issues at all! Problem solved.
